CoPlane – Automated invoice management

Heavy ERPs are out.

CoPlane is the intelligent operations layer for the enterprise back office, automating finance and procurement workflows for multi-billion-dollar companies.

The founding team of Chris Sperandio, Victor Mota, and Scott O'Leary previously built financial and data infrastructure at companies such as Stripe, Google, Twilio, Segment, Wix, and Chronosphere. CoPlane has just raised a 14 million dollar seed round led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from Stripe, Optum Ventures, and Terrain.

CoPlane turns messy policies and scattered data into AI-driven workflows. Agents extract and classify invoices, deterministic rules encode policies and compliance, and just-in-time human approvals handle the edge cases. Teams can automate invoice processing, exception handling, reconciliation, and reporting while integrating with existing systems like SAP, Workday, and Coupa.

In accounts payable and finance operations, organizations using this approach report big lifts in efficiency, including up to an 85% reduction in exception handling time and 70% fewer payment delays, turning the back office from a cost center into a real lever on margins.

As CFOs look to cut expenses and free finance teams for higher-value work, an AI intelligence layer that self-assembles and improves its own workflows could become a serious moat. The open question now is how far CoPlane can scale this model across the enterprise stack.
